$ RE: custom patches with midi songs..
$ I think it would be a good thing to be able to ship songs out
$ and include custom patches with them. You can do this now for
$ playmidi can't you? IE for a midi file named woof.mid have a
$ patch config file called woof.cfg that maps in the custom
$ pat files? I haven't tried this for a while. It also doesn't
$ help under windows of course..
$
$ ------------------------------
But it works like a dream for DOS and Linux, which both use the .cfg files
(PlayMidi for DOS, Adagio for Linux). Linux even adds some extensions to
Gravis' .cfg format. Is there some reason Windows cannot make use of .cfg
files, besides someone not having written the driver/app to do so?

Subject: hello, software synthesizer?
a question:
since there are sample editors for PCs that can
perform transformations on wave data,
are there any applications that can be used to do,
say, FM synthesis from sine waves, or even
some simple additive/subtractive synthesis?
if not, i don't understand why, even in the face
of sample editing there is still a need for synthesis, no?

PatchMan must be doing program change on SOME channel, but maybe not
on channel 1 which the keyboard is transmitting on. Can you send
a program change on channel 1 from the keyboard? It will work then.
